Frequently Asked Questions

As part of this community, each and every one of us shares the responsibility of improving the quality of life in our community. Corona-Norco United Way provides important funding that assists people who need a helping hand and every dollar collected counts.

Q - Are United Way contributions tax-deductible?

A - Yes, if you itemize. However, there are certain limitations. Donors should consult with their financial advisor for details.

Q - What should I do if I feel pressured to contribute?

A - Charitable giving is a personal matter and a personal decision. No one should be coerced into contributing. United Way is merely the simplest, quickest way to contribute and help this community at the same time.

Q - What is the Allocation Process?

A -The Allocation Process is the system through which the funds raised each year are distributed by community members to United Way's partner agencies providing the programs and services.

Q - Are United Way's funds distributed evenly amongst community's non-profits?

A - No. Each year members of the allocation committee, review funding requests, visit community programs and evaluates the finances of each non-profit partner. Then, based on community needs and the financial position of each partner, the allocations committee make recommendations to United Way's Board of Directors as to funding. The Board then acts on these recommendations. Recommendations can change every year allowing focus flexibility to tackle the greatest needs at the time of the request.

Q - Where can someone turn to find the right program or service for a specific problem?

A - Toll free 2-1-1 serves as an information and referral resource regarding available health and human social services in Corona-Norco area and Riverside County.

Q - When I retire, can I continue to give to United Way?

A - Yes. You can call Corona-Norco United Way at 951-736-0620 or visit GIVE page to continue your support. You can pledge monthly, annually, semi-annually or quarterly. Thank you for your gift!

Q - How do I find non-profit organizations that need help so I can volunteer?

A - Almost all non-profits are eager for volunteers. Your commitment can range from a one-day project, to one day a week or five days a week - the options are limitless. Call our office at 951-736-0620 or visit our Volunteer page to sign up.

Q - Do businesses make contributions to United Way aside from their employee contributions?

A - Yes. Locally, corporate contributions account for approximately 5% of funds collected during the campaign.

Q - Why do some agencies charge fees for their services?

A - United Way funding does not accounts for all the agency's total annual budget. They also seek funding through grants, endowments, third-party payments and sometimes, through client fees. Usually, if a fee is assessed, it is on a sliding scale to accommodate the client's income, so someone who truly needs assistance is not turned away.

Q - Why should someone who doesn't use any agency services care about United Way's success?

A - United Way funded partner agencies provide programs for people of all ages, backgrounds and income levels. None of us can know when problems may affect their own family; health issues and job loss can happen without warning. By donating to United Way you can ensure these services will be there when you or someone you know may need them. United Way partner agencies also not only help individuals, they help our entire community. The wholesomeness of our community is directly influenced by the health, happiness and well-being of everyone in it. Broken homes, delinquency, mental illness, care for children and drug abuse are social issues that affect us all.

Q - Do I have to contribute to receive agency services?

A - No. United Way agencies are open to anyone within our community who has a need for assistance.

Q - Who runs the United Way?

A - Corona-Norco United Way has a professional staff of 3, however, local volunteers and community leaders sit on the Board of Directors and guide the United Way's efforts on behalf of the community.

Q - How much of each dollar contributed actually goes to helping people?

A - Corona-Norco United Way contributes .80 cents of each dollar.
